Excellence at Westminster

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Finance & Resources at Westminster. I have only recently joined the organisation so I know what it is like to think about joining the City Council. Opportunity for career development is unrivalled. It's true what they say: a council like no other. Delivery and performance is outstanding. Reach and importance is without parallel.

Westminster City Council has a simple and bold ambition: to be the best city for quality of life in the UK and to be world class in city management. The ambition is high. And it has to be because the challenges are unique. The current post holder, Nick Bell, has made a big impact on the organisation and is going on to a role as Deputy Chief Executive in a large County Council.

Strong financial and resource management are central to the City Council's ambition: they are in our "DNA". But there is much to do to continue the Council's transformation and to take us to the next stage. There is much to do to strengthen resource optimisation across the Council and if successful you will play the leading role in this.

Westminster's success is driven by its staff, from the frontline to the corporate heart of the organisation. We need people who will take on the challenge to deliver our One City vision of strong communities, supported by excellent services. There are four delivery programmes to turn this vision into reality. Order, covering the street environment; Opportunity, covering social and children's services; Enterprise, including plans for business; and Renewal, covering the future of our streets and parks.

Our focus is on communities, giving people the chance to play a fuller role in city life. We want to make Westminster the best place in the UK for quality of life with active citizens helping to make London the world's greatest city.

The Council is committed to recruiting the best staff and developing future leaders from within the organisation. This means you will be supported in delivering the One City agenda through targeted training and development opportunities to help you develop your skills and build your career.

In my brief time here, I've been hugely impressed by the quality and commitment of our staff. The standards are high but so is the sense of achievement.

It's a great place to work; set in the heart of a 24/7 city, you will have professional challenges and opportunities put to you on a scale you've never experienced before. But you will not be left to run the city alone. We work together. Whatever your background, Westminster will give you the opportunity to work in award winning teams and drive your career to the next level.

We have a first rate team and attract first rate candidates. This represents a unique opportunity to be part of an authority and a team that knows where it is going, and we will get there.

Thank you for your interest, and best wishes for your future career.
